This might be the longest post in Poropat's Picks history, but i have a serious bone pick to some of you so-called "fans"
First things first, the Cowboys:
People, people, people. Look at yourselves... stop panicking! Your defense played phenomenal, your offense has yet to click (but has shown explosive potential) and your only two loses come from last second plays against 2 of the best teams in the ENTIRE LEAGUE. You guys are 2 plays from 4-0 and atop the NFL. I'm not quite sure why so many fans are jumping ship on this team, their scheme is working, once their execution gets there they will be a great team. Think of it this way. The last time everyone gave up on a team, cause they went 0-2 against 2 of the best teams in the NFC and their QB play was quite horrible, it was the GIANTS. Oh and by the way, they won the Superbowl that year, against an 18-0 team. Why? cause their defense and run game got them to the playoffs and their pass game showed up IN the playoffs. Thats the same position you guys are in right now and the season is FAR from over. If your a true fan you believe that, otherwise your probably a front-runner or someone with uncontrollably high standards and little faith.
And secondly, Whats Wrong with Romo?
In a word, everything. In another word, nothing. The real answer? Romo isn't Romo anymore. Just last year he had stated that he was trying to make a transition. Based on the fans and media's perspective of being a "gun-slinger", Romo had made attempts to change the way he plays. He took film from Tom Brady and tried to stand tall in the pocket, allow the offensive line to block for him the entire play. He tried to make better decision, and not try to get out of the pocket and make "reckless" throws. Its quite noticeable that he doesn't play like he used to, but not because hes gotten worse, but because of what he's trying to change about himself. He's a decent QB in the pocket, but a top 5 QB out of it. He had 1 play out of the pocket in the Denver game this weekend. It resulted in a 60 yard pass to get into the red zone for the potentially game-tieing score. So why is he trying to change himself? cause apparently, the fans and media felt that its the reason they didn't win playoff games.
Well fans, media. here are the facts: when he was a "gunslinger" he was 20-5 as a QB, a top rated QB and reached the playoffs twice. Since he has ben trying to "change himself" he has been 11-9 and NEVER reached the playoffs. I do not know about the rest of you, but if i were you guys, I'd stop making Romo change. The man is an excellent QB when he is himself. he doesn't even seem to be enjoying the game anymore. I'm sorry but i truly believe that the fans have led Romo to become Drew Bledsoe... yea... i know you guys don't want that. So if you really care, you better WISH for that old romo to come back, if he throws 2 wild picks and 5 TDs in a game, its a hell-of-a lot better than how he's playing now.
In a nut shell, the teams react to the fans thoughts about them. The fact that the fans are complaining about them COULD be a good thing, and make the team tun around, however, fans and media are the reason they have the team today. Simply because players like Tony Romo and coaches like Wade Phillips and owners like Jerry Jones focus too much on what the fans want, and not whats best for the team. If you want them to win, you have to either steer them in the RIGHT direction, or just stop distracting them all together.
